CART FedEx
High RPM Event That's All Go-CARTs
Tall Ship "Guayas" Comes to Call

June 7-9 brings the premier motorsports event in Northern California to Monterey: Round 5 of the 20-round 2002 FedEx Championship Series for CART's Champ Cars. The 83-lap main event will feature the top open-wheel drivers in America including Jimmy Vasser, Kenny Brack, Michael Andretti, Scott Dixon, Paul Tracy, rookie Townsend Bell, Adrian Fernandez, and last year's winner, Max Papis.

These drivers take the 2.238 mile, 11-turn road course at speeds averaging 110 mph. Dedicated fans arrive to snap up great viewing spots on Friday at 7am, but there's excitement all weekend long, with key races Saturday at 3pm (CART Toyota Atlantic race), and Sunday at 10:45am (Barber Dodge Pro Series race), 1:30pm (Shell 300 race), and 4:45 (Mazda Speed Cup race).

For ticket information, call 800-327-SECA or 831-648-5100, or visit www.laguna-seca.com
Three-masted brigantine barques used to be fairly common sights in Monterey Bay—say 250 years ago... But on June 21-25, one will reappear, when the Ecuadorian Navy training ship Guayas moors at Monterey's Wharf II.

Enjoy free self-guided tours daily from 10am-5pm, plus lots of "don't miss" special events:
  • June 21 9am An exchange of cannon fire with Monterey's Presidio when the ship approaches the wharf. Look up in the rigging: those tiny figures are the midshipmen "manning the rails"!
  • June 22 10am The officers and crew, led by the ship's band, march through downtown Monterey to Custom House Plaza for a historic reenactment of a formal Customs Clearing ceremony.
  • June 23-24 noon The ship's salsa band performs—Saturday at Cannery Row, Sunday on Fisherman's Wharf.
