Ask a Staffer

How do I use MCCVB resources to get my story in the hands of media?

One of the benefits of MCCVB membership is access to communication and media outreach. The Communication Department is continuing an overarching strategy to incorporate the Monterey County brand identity into all communications, including interactions with media. Here is a list of ways members can maximize their exposure:

  • New Community Outreach Program – Consistently, MCCVB communications staff will visit properties and attractions to learn about new member products and services.
  • Be Proactive – Provide the MCCVB with your latest news-worthy information. No story is a bad story, so let us know when you have a new product, service, story angle or way of packaging your business.
  • Provide the Communications Department with Event Information – There is a plethora of activities in Monterey County. Make sure the MCCVB is aware of yours by providing information to Celeste White or Katie Besmer.
  • Be Included in a Monthly Press Release – The MCCVB composes press releases each month, focusing on different aspects of Monterey County’s “story.” Look for opportunities to provide specific information in the Member E-Newsletter each month.
  • Media Familiarization (Fam) Trips – Annually, the MCCVB works with hundreds of writers who are doing stories about Monterey County. The communications department takes great efforts to ensure that writers receive the best possible experience. Often, they have their own agenda and do not require/desire for the CVB or members to host them.

If the MCCVB is asked to host a Fam trip, the request is normally for very specific activities/attractions. The CVB looks to its members that are most likely to provide the requested experience; and then works around the members’ availability and desire to host the media. (The CVB understands that members’ ability to participate may be impacted by restrictions/blackout dates.)

In addition, the MCCVB can assist members with their own familiarization/media requests.
