A new Tour & Travel website area premiered on the website this month, another component of the MCCVB's efforts to attract tour operators. This area includes a number of sample itineraries that bring visitors to all areas of Monterey County, as well as information on member tour providers. This is only the beginning for Tour & Travel; keep an eye on this section over the next year to see how it grows!
Wondering if you'll need an umbrella tomorrow? Just go to the front page of the MCCVB site and hover your mouse over the "Weather" button on the left-hand side of the content area. It now shows the weather forecast for the next five days, including expected high and low temperatures. This information comes direct from the National Weather Service, and it's updated hourly.
Another new feature on the front page is Specials and Deals. Point your cursor at the "Specials and Deals" button in the left-hand column to see three featured specials. These featured specials are randomly selected from all specials on the site; each time the front page is reloaded, different specials appear. Users can then click through to see all Specials and Deals. If you want to see your specials featured on this page, just log in to your Stakeholder page, click on "Special Offers", and click on "Add New." Your special offer will appear on the Specials and Deals page from its start date to its end date, and will also appear on our front page. (Please note that your special will not appear until the date you have set as the "Start Date".)
As stated in last month's web update, October was a record month for the MCCVB's site, bringing more traffic than any other month this year. The rest of the travel industry also saw a record month in October, but not the sort of records anyone wanted. Site traffic for the travel industry as a whole dropped 14%; traffic for Travelocity plummeted 16%, Orbitz plunged 23%, and Expedia nose-dived 25%, according to ComScore. (Read more here.) Against this backdrop, our success in October is even more heartening. November's site traffic was also higher than projected; we look forward to seeing what December will bring.
