Web Update

The MCCVB website has received several enhancements over the past three months, with a new group section, added content on existing pages, and 800 stakeholder pages nearly complete. These changes have led to surprising Internet traffic numbers for a time of year that typically tracks a decrease in website visitation.

Web traffic for the MCCVB site for September historically has a very steep drop-off from August. The MCCVB usually sees a nearly 15% visitor drop-off from August to September, in line with tourism trends. Based on this, around 29,000 visitors were expected to view the site in September. Instead, 32,039 visitors came to the site in September, only 2,047 visits short of August.

October has been an even bigger traffic month. A perfect storm of promotion and new initiatives, including the fall short-term promotion, the Pure Big Sur sweepstakes, the premiere of the new consumer e-newsletter, magazine and newspaper advertisements, links from several blogs, new search engine marketing and an evolving search engine optimization strategy have driven previously unseen levels of traffic to the MCCVB site. By noon on October 30, October had become the highest-traffic month of 2008.

The new group section of the MCCVB site helps meeting planners while also promoting member hotels, meeting venues and other organizations. The MCCVB is continually seeking high-resolution, attractive digital photos that show off group venues or services to be included on the site at no charge to members.

Partner stakeholder pages provide another spot for visibility. These stakeholder pages do not have to be a mere listing! Partners can edit their own stakeholder page to give information, show photos and even notify potential visitors of special offers that may help them decide to visit your business. As more travelers do their planning online, MCCVB stakeholder pages become another important (and free) marketing vehicle!
