INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS
Kick off the Fourth of July with Monterey's Community Fourth of July Parade down Alvarado Street in downtown Monterey, followed by a barbecue picnic and live music on the lawn in front of historic Colton Hall.
After the parade, travel back in time and discover life in the 1840's at Living History Day in Old Monterey. At the historic Cooper-Molera Adobe you'll meet a gardener, cook, soldier, and more!
The festivities in Monterey culminate with a 9:15 p.m. Fireworks Display over the Monterey Bay.
Add a twist to your Fourth of July by watching the display of lights from a Fireworks Cruise on the Monterey Bay.
Experience an old-fashioned Fourth of July at the Spreckels Fourth of July Celebration, which kicks the day off with a 10K run, a one-mile race for kids under 12, and a grand parade of children along Third Street. Includes live music, a Fireman's Muster, craft fair, food booths and more!
Carmel-by-the-Sea will celebrate the nation's birthday with its annual 4th of July Celebration at Devendorf Park.

Stroll through the Moss Landing Antique Street Fair (July 29) and browse thousands of antiques and collectibles brought here by more than 200 dealers from all over the West Coast.
Stroll the shops and boutiques of luxury-laden Carmel Plaza while listening to talented local jazz artists at Carmel Plaza's popular 12-week Jazz at the Plaza series (Fridays beginning July 6). This year, the Monterey County Vintners & Growers Association will showcase a different local winery every week — July's lineup features the wines of Scheid Vineyards, Heller Estate Vineyards, Bernardus Vineyards, and Ventana Vineyards.

FESTIVALS
Don your kilt and enjoy a week of bagpipers, dancers, drummers, and more at the 2007 Monterey County Celtic Week (through July 8). The event-packed week includes a Pub Night (July 5), Celtic Concert (July 6), and culminates with the 40th Annual Monterey Scottish Games and Celtic Festival (July 7-8) at the pastoral Monterey County Toro Park.
America's preeminent festival of Baroque music celebrates its 68th season at the 2007 Carmel Bach Festival (July 14-August 4) with 100 musicians from around the world performing in venues including Sunset Center, Carmel Mission Basilica, Church in the Forest, Pebble Beach, and All Saints Church, Carmel.
Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic music events of the Summer of Love at the Monterey Summer of Love Festival (July 28-29) on the same stage where the famous Monterey Pop Festival rocked the world in 1967. Enjoy incredible musical acts including Riders on the Storm (Robbie Krieger & Ray Manzarek's latest version of The Doors), Jefferson Starship, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother and the Holding Company and Moby Grape.

Experience a festive day of lively ambiance, fabulous fare and the newest Chateau Julien wines at the winery's annual Summer Jamboree (July 8). To celebrate of 23 years of wine production and hospitality, special offers will be extended on all featured wines the day of the event.

One of the top events in international motorcycling, the MotoGP World Championship (July 20-22) races into Monterey when Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca hosts the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.
The California Rodeo Salinas (July 19-22) promises edge-of-your-seat thrills for the entire family. Top pro competition in steer wrestling, bull riding, calf roping, bareback bronco riding, and barrel racing. Enjoy parades, night shows and great food.
The Pebble Beach Equestrian Classics (July 17-August 5) host competitors from all over the U.S., Canada and Mexico for two weeks of spectacular show jumping highlighted by special events, wine tasting and family fun.
Purchase your tickets now for the 10th Annual Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach (Aug. 31-Sept. 2). Each Labor Day weekend, The Wal-Mart First Tee Open at showcases the talent and character of young people who participate at The First Tee facilities worldwide. An official Champions Tour event, the tournament pairs one junior with a Champions Tour player and two amateurs.

NATURE
For a one-of-a-kind outdoor adventure, head to Big Sur for a four-hour Condor Viewing Experience (July 15 and 29) led by Ventana Wildlife Society condor docents who will help you to observe endangered California condors in their native environment.
Kids are invited on a star-studded safari at the Roar & Snore Overnight Camps (July 13, 20, 27) at Wild Things in Salinas. The overnight camps include a nocturnal safari, campfire dinner, games, fireside snacks and the chance to slumber under the stars — while being serenaded by roaring lions and trumpeting elephants!

HISTORY & LITERATURE
Each year, the Carmel Heritage Society Annual House Tour (July 8) makes it possible for the public to visit a small selection of homes representative of Carmel's heritage. This year's tour includes the remarkable Frank Lloyd Wright house, the new, spacious "Carefree Sur Mer", and the redwood studio home built in 1905 by distinguished photographer Arnold Genthe. The 2007 tour also includes one of the oldest homes in Carmel, built in 1888 for Davenport Bromfield, Carmel's first land surveyor.
Commemorate the 156th anniversary of Commodore John Drake Sloat's landing in Monterey in 1846 with the Sloat Landing Ceremony (July 7) at Custom House Plaza in Monterey. This historic event celebrates the claiming of California for the United States, joining the nation "from sea to shining sea."

ART & CULTURAL EVENTS
Taste Oldtown Salinas culture by strolling the First Fridays Art Walk (July 6), a free monthly event featuring local artists and musicians, light refreshments and special promotions.
Explore the world of Japanese food, art and culture at the 61st Annual Obon Festival at the Monterey Buddhist Temple in Seaside (July 8). Featured cultural events will include Ikebana (flower arranging), Odori (dancing), and Koto performance.
Watch painters busy at work in the lanes and byways all around Old Monterey during this week-long celebration. Stroll Alvarado Street and its surroundings and watch artists capture charming adobes and exquisite gardens at the Old Monterey Plein Air Painting and Art Promenade (July 7-8). En plein air is a French expression that means "in the open air" and is particularly used to describe painting in the outside environment rather than indoors in a studio. Sunday, the art is on display (and for sale) following a judged competition.
Discover the Monterey Museum of Art's exquisite and historic La Mirada adobe, the only West Coast venue for Seeing Ourselves: Masterpieces of American Photography (through July 22) — a stunning display of great American photography from the George Eastman collection. The photography exhibit displays photos dating from the 1800s to the 21st century.

PERFORMING ARTS
Don't miss Films In the Forest, weeknight screenings of your favorite flicks at Carmel's outdoor Forest Theater. Bring a cushion and a cuddly throw, plus your own picnic or popcorn! Choose from About A Boy (July 10), Endless Summer II (July 17), To Have and To Have Not (July 18), and E.T. (July 24), to name a few.
Celebrate a 20-year tradition of Blues and Art in the Park (July 8) as Sunday Blues at Laguna Grande Park in Seaside kicks off its 2007 season with performances by Sunday Blues All-Star Band "Featuring Lee Durley" and Barbara Morrison. Free to the public!
Head over to the Barnyard Shopping Village for the inaugural Bach at The Barnyard (July 13), which showcases exceptional music in The Barnyard's tranquil gardens. Expect a blend of great composers and pieces, including Cazon III by Gabrieli, Canzona by Marini, and numerous musical pieces by Bach during this half-hour courtyard serenade.
Buy your tickets at Salinas' Western Stage today to Kiss Me Kate (July 14-August 4) — a knock-down, drag-'em-out, battle royale of the sexes — all to the music of Cole Porter. Earning five Tony Awards in 1949, this musical tour-de-force features eighteen Porter classics including "Wunderbar", "Brush-Up Your Shakespeare", and the bawdy "Tom, Dick, and Harry."
