EXHIBITIONS
Two very different, but equally stunning exhibits are on display this Fall. From gallery installations crafted from paper to the early 1900's to black and white photo-interviews, you can find it in Monterey County.
SKIMMING THE SURFACE: AN INSTALLATION BY CHRISTEL DILLBOHNER
This site-specific installation by San Francisco Bay Area artist Christel Dillbohner engulfs the viewer in a contemplative environment. The dramatic Dart Gallery floor is absorbed The Green Pool an installation of nearly 500 hand-pigmented paper cones. The installation also includes paintings, works on paper and relief sculptures, echoing the delicate evocations of texture and surface. This exhibition will run through January 13, 2008.
BECOMING AMERICAN: TEENAGERS AND IMMIGRATION
Barbara Beirne's exhibition of black and white photos-interviews explores immigration, acculturation, and cultural diversity. Beirne interviewed and photographed immigrant teenagers from all over the globe resulting in a series of photo portraits captioned with the subjects' own thoughts, some optimistic, some sorrowful, but all thought provoking. This exhibition will run from September 28th to December 2, 2007 at the Steinbeck Center.
