Monterey County is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Dramatic coastline, towering forests, tranquil meadows and an abundance of wildlife make it a premier destination for nature lovers. Some come for the scenic views; some for the boating, hiking, bird or whale watching; others come to get away from it all. Whatever the reason, Monterey is a treasure that you just have to experience firsthand.

This March, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is "Wild About Otters" with an exhibit dedicated to our favorite furry friends. If your thinking it's the same old otters that lounge about in our coastal sanctuary, think again! These otters are fresh water otters who naturally dwell in exotic regions of Asia and Africa. The five-gallery exhibition will display four African spotted-necked otters and four Asian small-clawed otters in exhibits that represent their native lake and river habitats.
The exhibit opens March 31st and will be an ongoing exhibit for years to come. For more information about this exciting new exhibit, visit the Aquarium's website, or call 831-648-4800.

3RD WHITE SHARK ON EXHIBIT
For only the third time, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has a young white shark on exhibit. The sharka 4-foot-9-inch, 67 pound malewas placed in the 1.2 million gallon Outer Bay exhibit on August 28. He'll remain in the exhibit as long as he's in good health and is small enough for the aquarium to return safely to the wild.
Monterey remains the only aquarium in the world to exhibit a white shark for more than 16 days, and they successfully returned the first two white sharks to the wild. The first was on exhibit for a record 198 days, the second for 137 days. Tracking tags recorded their movements back in the wild, journeys that took one of the sharks to the southern tip of Baja California during the first 90 days back in the ocean.
You can see the shark in person, or on the aquariums Outer Bay webcams . And you can learn more online on their white shark pages.
