Big Sur Arts Initiative is a nonprofit organization sponsoring cultural events and enrichment programs in Big Sur. Programs include StageKids performing arts camp, the Hidden Gardens tour, Jazzmasters Workshop, the Childrens Garden at Captain Cooper School, & the Arts Bridge.
History
Big Sur Arts Initiative began as an emergency response to the 3-month closure of Highway One and the disruption to local schools caused by the 1997/1998 winter of El Nino. Local volunteers coordinated classes for all displaced children regardless of school affiliation, offering classes in hotel lobbies, restaurant kitchens, and living rooms. Since that time, the organization has evolved into a year-round provider of enrichment programs and cultural events for children, youth, and families, and visitors to Big Sur.
The eighth annual Big Sur Hidden Gardens Tour will be held in Big Sur, CA on Saturday, June 24th, 2006. Tickets for this self-guided, self-driving tour are $45 and give visitors access to spectacular private gardens along the ridges and coastline of Big Sur. To add your name to the mailing list for the announcement for this sell out event, please call 831-667-1530. Tickets go on sale in early March. All proceeds benefit Big Sur Arts Initiative.
