The National Steinbeck Center is a $15 million, 40,000 square foot museum and archive in Salinas, California, Nobel-prize winning author John Steinbeck�s birthplace. The Center offers the visitor three distinct experiences. Literature in the John Steinbeck Exhibition Hall, Ariculture & History in the new Valley of the World agricultural wing and Art & Culture in the Gabilan Gallery. Discounted admission rates are available for group of 12 or more with advance reservations.
The John Steinbeck Exhibition Hall presents the life of John Steinbeck, his writings and characters in an informative and entertaining manner through engaging exhibitry, one of a kind artifacts, educational programs, and films. There are interactive multi-sensory exhibits for all ages with seven themed theaters showcasing Cannery Row, The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, Of Mice and Men, The Red Pony and much more.
The new Valley of the World agricultural wing shares the stories of the Salinas Valley �from field to fork� with hands on displays, computer stations and interactive games. Visitors can vote for their favorite vegetable, play �the Produce Game� or design their own crate label.
The Gabilan Gallery is a changing exhibit gallery, which accommodates a variety of art and cultural exhibits each year.
The Center features a museum store where John Steinbeck�s books and films can be purchased in addition to a unique inventory of gift items and collectibles.
One Main Street Caf� at the National Steinbeck Center offers a gourmet lunch menu, which features Salinas Valley Produce and Monterey County Wines.
An all-inclusive group lunch menu is available for groups of 20 or more.
The National Steinbeck Center is also a unique off-site or event facility, for groups from 25-600, and One Main Street Caf� provides catering on site.
