Signatures of SpectorDance creative projects are the exploration of dance and media integration, and the use of literary themes and social issues from our local community as choreographic source material.
Monterey Dance Fest is the annual dance festival hosted by SpectorDance. It features master classes and performances with visiting guest artists, subsidized daytime performances for public schools and seniors, The Emerging Choreographers Showcase, presenting new works chosen through a national selection process and Q & A filmed for television following selected events.
Monterey Dance Fest aims to increase local and visitor participation through expanded marketing, artistic collaboration, outreach and fundraising. Often audiences have limited opportunities to see the work of choreographers locally from larger dance centers and visiting choreographers often lack opportunities outside their �home� cities. A new segment of tourists art attracted to the festival and stay at hotels, buy meals and visit local attractions. Monterey Dance Fest is creatively vibrant and economically viable. It is the only festival of this kind in Monterey County. Modeled after successful and long-running dance festivals on the East Coast (the American Dance Festival in North Carolina and Jacob�s Pillow in Massachusetts) Monterey Dance Week has the potential to vitalize the practice and appreciation of contemporary dance in our community and to put Monterey County on the map as a vibrant West Coast dance center.
SpectorDance offers ongoing classes in a variety of dance styles for all ages and levels of experience. Studio Space is available for rent.
