Oldtown Salinas is celebrating community art and you're invited. Every first Friday of the month visitors can stroll the downtown area and enjoy fine art, refreshments, wine tasting and live music. Galleries along the 100 to 300 block of Main Street display art and host receptions from 5 to 8pm, while other downtown shops and businesses remain open to the public in an open house format.

DIVERSE EXHIBITIONS
Two very different, but equally stunning exhibits are on display this Fall. From masterpieces dating back to the early 1900's to black and white photo-interviews, you can find it in Monterey County.
HENRI MATISSE'S "JAZZ"
Henri Matisse (1869-1954) designed the twenty brilliant color pochoir stencil prints that comprise the album "Jazz" in 1944 during a twelve month hospital convalescence. "Jazz" is a tribute to Matisse's quest for perfection in form and color and a very personal expression of his fundamental principles. In Matisse's own words: Jazz is rhythm and meaning." Henri Matisse's "Jazz" will be on display from June 16, 2007 to October 21, 2007.
BECOMING AMERICAN: TEENAGERS AND IMMIGRATION
Barbara Beirne's exhibition of black and white photos-interviews explores immigration, acculturation, and cultural diversity. Beirne interviewed and photographed immigrant teenagers from all over the globe resulting in a series of photo portraits captioned with the subjects' own thoughts, some optimistic, some sorrowful, but all thought provoking. This exhibition will run from September 28th to December 2, 2007 at the Steinbeck Center.
